The Crane Standing
          on
The Turtles Back
            ?
This style of Acupuncture and Moxibustion originated from China and has more than
4000-5000 years of history. Many basic theories concerning the internal organs, meridians,
acupoints, and the use of acupuncture needles were recorded in Huangdi Neijing Suwen
(Plain Questions of Emperor Huang di's Internal Classic) and Ling su (Miraculous Pivot), the
two earliest Chinese Medical books about Traditional Chinese Medicine.
This is one of the Acupuncture techniques that we utilize at the Clinic to help us determine
which exact points will be of utmost use during your treatment.
Oftentimes it is not the amount of needles that matter most during a session,
but rather
which points and how exactly they are located and needled.  It is rare, but not
unheard of to have the most efficacious and perfect treatment come from only one or two
perfectly timed and placed needles.
One of the true beauties of Chinese Medicine rests in it's subtlety. Less can sometimes be
more, or rather, just enough with Acupuncture. In keeping with these harmonious principles
we endeavor to only needle which points are necessary and to likewise prescribe only the
most effective herbal formulas.
If a patient can find a cure by altering his or her diet and lifestyle alone, herbs will not be
required.  If herbal therapy and Acupuncture can rectify a patients imbalance, they may not
need to seek further treatment outside of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and avoid the
complications of Drugs and Surgery.  We realize and believe in the value of Western
Medicine, this is why we work closely with Dr. James Carter Ph.D., at CMS
(Complementary Medical Services.)  Eastern and Western Medicine do, in fact,
complement each other very well.  There will come a time in the very near future that no
hospital in America will be without both forms of Medicine.

The symbol for The Grand Rapids
Acupuncture Clinic
is that of the Crane
standing on the back of the Turtle.
According to Chinese symbolism the
Crane represents Harmony, Healing, and
Happiness.  The Turtle; long-life, good
fortune, and the ability to foretell the
future. More importantly to Chinese
medicine is the
Ling Gui Ba Fa , The
Eight Magic Turtle Technique
- An ancient
system of point selection based on the
Chinese calender year and time of day
that one receives treatment.
